Iznik is a long established family-run, neighbourhood restaurant serving authentic Turkish cuisine on Highbury Park taking its name from an ancient Turkish town known for its richly decorated pottery. This is reflected in Iznik’s evocative interior of dark wood, bright pink walls, floral tiling, hanging glass lamps, carved wooden screens and antique embroidered kaftans in gilt frames. Iznik’s menu draws on traditional cooking of the Ottoman empire including a wide range of mezze starters, many of which are vegetarian. In fact, Iznik has won accolades from the Vegetarian Society for its vegetarian dishes. Mains include Levrek (grilled seabass, served with boiled new potatoes and wild rocket salad); Pacanga (filo pastry stuffed with dried cured beef, diced tomato, onions, kashkaval cheese, green peppers and parsley, served with mixed salad leaves); Karniyarik (aubergine stuffed with ground lamb and baked in tomato sauce, served with rice); and Mucver (courgette and feta cheese fritters served with cacık and salad).
